The computer hall of a research laboratory in the dry hills of California deep in the night, cool fluorescent light, in front a console desk in a pale housing with two round green screens side by side, each showing soft scattered points of green light, a hand on its blank keys, behind it grey steel cabinets set in the shape of a plus, one door swung open on a wall of thousands of twisted wires in red, brown, green and white over rows of white connectors, beside them a black panel with five round pointer instruments, below it behind glass a cooling unit with copper pipes, every surface plain and unmarked.
