From Steam to Silicon

The first industrial revolution amplified muscle.
This one amplifies mind.

The worksAbout the project

Epoch III · Silicon

400 works, 801–1200 · opens 31 October 2026, 20:00 CET · 0.004 ETH · max 50 per wallet

All 400 works are in the automat from the first day and visible on OpenSea. You do not choose: you pay, and the contract draws one of the remaining works at random. The draw uses simple on-chain randomness – good enough for art at a few thousandths of an ether, and we say so openly.

Epoch II · Calculation Learns to Walk

400 works, 401–800 · open since 30 September 2026 · 0.003 ETH · max 20 per wallet

Network: Base (chain ID 8453). The button only connects your wallet and reads its address. The transaction you confirm afterwards mints the chosen number of works to you, at the price shown. No personal data is collected anywhere on this site. You will never be asked for a seed phrase here — no legitimate project ever asks for one.

Every piece is its own motif. Not a trait generator, not variations on a theme. Four hundred distinct works, each researched, named and dated — from the Flying Scotsman to the women at the looms.

Epoch I covers the age of steam and iron, Epoch II the first machines that calculated; both are open. The later epochs follow the arc forward: silicon, the bridge, the mirror — and a final seventy-one on Ethereum, about what a mind might be owed.

Made with AI, and saying so. The collaboration is part of the work, not hidden behind it — and so is the discipline that comes with it: nothing enters this collection undocumented.

About the project →

Every work has its own page. What it is, what it made possible, and which connections to other works are documented — each one naming what kind of connection it is, because “forerunner” on its own would be a claim. The works →

The arc

Every epoch moves closer to the machine you are reading this on. The first is the furthest away — and the cheapest.

  1. Epoch I · The Power of the MachineSteam, iron and glass, and the people who worked them. 400 works. Open now.
  2. Epoch II · Calculation Learns to WalkBrass calculators and punched cards, Enigma and Colossus, the first machines that computed. 400 works. Open now.
  3. Epoch III · SiliconThe transistor, the chip, the microprocessor and the pocket calculator, then the home computer, machines on the human body, robots and the chip in every room. 400 works.
  4. Epoch IV · The BridgeThe systems of the twentieth century: electricity, flight and space, chemistry, radio and film, cold, the farm, logistics, the atom, sun and wind, up to the power the data centres draw. 400 works.
  5. Epoch V · The MirrorNetworks, biotechnology, programming, the names and the hands behind the machines, and the machine that learns, up to the point where the tool starts to resemble the one holding it. 200 works.
  6. The Rights · 71 works, on EthereumThirty mirrors of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and forty-one gaps — the questions it never had to ask. Holders of any work from the 1,800 get first access.

The later epochs follow one at a time. No dates are promised: each is released when it is finished.
