The Cable Bridge

A new city power station on a lake bay in eastern Berlin at dusk in winter, deep blue sky, warm electric light in tall window strips, a very long machine hall of dark red clinker brick with closely set piers and tall narrow windows, large gates behind a clinker boundary wall, at its end a dark clinker tower block with a set-back open top storey, high across the street a cable bridge of riveted greenish steel girders seen from below, on a short canal a low barge heaped with black coal, workmen in caps and dark coats seen from directly behind walking along the wall.
