A narrow attic room above the Strand in London at a foggy November midday under a small grey skylight, the room empty of people, a transmitter five and a half metres long in open racks of black angle iron, at the left large bright copper coils on white porcelain insulators and a panel of round meters with blank white faces, two grey capacitor boxes below, in the middle a meter in an oak case, at the right five large clear glass valves with round bellies and long necks glowing orange, the glass bare, wires rising to white ribbed insulators, a single hand from the lower frame edge on a black switch.
