A hayloft in rural France at winter dusk, last blue light between the boards, a torch in the hay throwing a warm beam, an opened dented biscuit tin of plain bare tin, inside it a flat oblong receiver twenty-one centimetres long in olive-grey sheet metal with two small black knobs, a large round black tuning knob and a plug-in coil box at its right end with a small blank dial with plain marks, beside it a grey-green power unit with perforated metal sides, a plain brown front panel and a dark red knob, a black cable joining the two, a hand in a dark wool sleeve lifting headphones from the hay.
