The Hooked Blade

A cold white-tiled processing hall in New Zealand at dawn, wet tiles gleaming, drifting steam from a hose-down, an overhead chain of empty bright steel hooks receding into the haze, at the wrist of a white robot arm a compact tool head forty centimetres long of polished aluminium and stainless steel, at its front a narrow serrated blade with a curved hooked tip and a thin copper tube along it, behind it a round black air motor with a hexagonal cap, three plain black valve connectors with green rings, black hoses, a bright plate drilled with many small holes, water droplets on the metal, pale cold light from high windows.
