The Square Dish

The rear brick wall of a terraced house in Leeds on a bright July midday, red brick with pale mortar, beneath a white-framed sash window a flat light grey square plate with rounded corners and a narrow black rim on a short grey bracket, its face plain and unmarked, a black cable running along the brick and in through a small hole in the window frame, below it a narrow back yard with a wooden fence, a bicycle and pots of herbs, through the window glass soft in the room a flat black receiver box with a small dark red glowing display window beneath a television, sharp shadows on the brick.
