1881 · Ring Armature Dynamo · Work 1205 of 1,871
The electroplating workshop of a silversmith near Paris at midday in summer, white daylight from a glazed roof through faint steam, on a platform a dynamo fifty-four centimetres high, a red-brown cast-iron frame of two side cheeks with a lifting eye on top, above and below two horizontal field coils wound in black, between them a ring armature of dark windings behind a red-brown upright pole piece with a small plain brass plate, at the right a brass brush gear and a silver-grey pulley with a leather belt, copper bars running to stoneware tanks with spoons and jugs hanging in the baths, a worker's hands lifting a wire basket of spoons.
