1919 · Transatlantic Twin-Engined Biplane · Work 1245 of 1,871

A bumpy meadow in Newfoundland on a cold windy June afternoon, fast grey and white clouds, grass streaming in the wind, a large twin-engined biplane twenty metres wide, wings and flat box-shaped fuselage in cream-white fabric, plain and unmarked from nose to tail, between the wings two pale grey sheet-metal engine nacelles with upright ribbed radiator grilles, before each a turning four-blade pale grey propeller with a copper-brown hub, orange-brown wooden centre struts, slender pale outer struts and many bracing wires, large wheels with grey covers, two men in leather flying suits seen from directly behind climbing a short ladder into the cockpit, plain metal drums at the edge.
