2005 · Space Shuttle Orbiter · Work 1275 of 1,871
The underside of a space shuttle orbiter in orbit in hard white sunlight, seen from close below along its belly, a broad expanse of black heat-shield tiles, mottled and scorched grey at their edges, single replaced tiles lighter, from one narrow seam between two tiles a thin pale strip of fabric standing out, two hands in thick white pressure-suit gloves reaching up from the lower edge of the frame, one glove pinching the pale strip, a short steel tether at the wrist, at one side the end of a long white jointed robotic arm, far below the deep blue Earth with white cloud bands, black space beyond.
