The Paper Conveyor

A narrow moving belt running the length of a clerical floor at desk height, folders and envelopes carried along it, small hinged gates at each section where work can be lifted off, electric motors housed in a steel casing at the far end, the belt on steel supports between two ranks of flat desks, each desk with a typewriter and a wire tray, tall windows along the left wall letting in flat grey daylight, electric pendant lamps with white glass shades in a line down the ceiling, steel filing cabinets against the right wall, the belt and the desks receding into the depth of the room with dark unlit figures at the far desks.
