1975 · Key Punch Operation · Werk 598 von 1.871

A room of key punches in a row with only two of twenty positions occupied, the operators seen from behind, grey dust covers on the rest, a terminal with a glass screen standing on a desk at the end of the row, the nearest key punch and a card in its bed close to the lens, a stiff buff card with one corner cut, ruled into columns with the digits 0 to 9 printed down each column, rectangular holes punched in a scattered pattern, the row of covered machines receding into soft focus, fluorescent tubes along the ceiling, carpet tiles.
Belegt ist allein 1937: 32 Pressen in Endicott und "5 million to 10 million punched cards every day" (IBM).
